About Miramar
In 1953, dairy farmer Henry D. Perry sold land in southwestern Broward to developer A.L. Mailman. Mailman built 56 inexpensive concrete homes with flat roofs and named the development Miramar, after a neighborhood in Havana, Cuba. The city incorporated on May 26, 1955, with fewer than 200 residents. Miramar adopted a Comprehensive Land Use Plan in 1972, before state law mandated it. Two-thirds of land within current city limits remains undeveloped.
