About Davie
In 1909, the first permanent settlers arrived from the Panama Canal Zone after Florida Governor Napoleon Bonaparte Broward drained the swampland. The community was first called Zona. Soon after, Colorado developer Robert Parsell Davie purchased 27,000 acres and brought water and drainage to the area. Zona was renamed Davie in his honor in 1916. The Town first incorporated in 1925, dissolved due to tax issues, then reincorporated in 1961.
Geographically, Davie sits 24 miles north of Miami in the heart of Broward County. Plantation lies to the north, Fort Lauderdale to the east, Hollywood to the south, and Southwest Ranches to the west. The downtown commercial district enforces Western-style ranch architecture under town code. Throughout the town, more than 165 miles of equestrian and pedestrian trails link neighborhoods. The 1918 Old Davie School is the oldest existing school building in the county.
