Pompano Beach has been strategically purchasing land to bring this plan to life. So far, over $25 million has been spent on acquisitions, including vacant lots, duplexes, and five single-family homes. That’s in addition to the 50 acres the city already owns.
More land is being added, thanks to City Commission approvals in mid-2024. This expansion is prompting updates to the site plan, which will be revealed alongside a new City Hall design in March. The current City Hall, built in 1990, is being put up for sale to help fund the construction of its replacement.
Earlier this spring, the city hosted five public roundtables in March and April 2025, inviting residents to share feedback on the downtown redesign, financing plans, and community priorities.
The Canal Walk and Mixed-Use Growth
One of the most captivating features of this project is a planned 12-block waterwalk designed to function as both storm drainage and a scenic pedestrian path. Picture shaded walkways, local cafés, public seating areas, and live music, all alongside a gentle flowing canal.
