About Palm Springs, FL
The history of Palm Springs began in the early 20th century when the region was predominantly agricultural. A large dairy farm had been established in 1927 by William A. Boutwell, former vice-mayor of Lake Worth. Governance-wise, the farm was one of the largest in all of Florida and extended over nearly 700 acres. The farm was home to over a thousand Guernsey cattle, incidentally contributing to the invention of half-and-half cream. By the mid-20th century, as South Florida succumbed to development fever, the land was sold largely for developmental purposes, giving rise to what would eventually evolve into the village of Palm Springs.
Chartered on May 31, 1957, Palm Springs was meant to be a thoroughly planned community on the western fringe of Lake Worth. The next layer of development of the village was performed under Moore Associates Development Group with James E. Moore, the company founder, as its first mayor.
Sometimes referred to as "in the heart of Palm Beach County," the village of Palm Springs is located just 61 miles north of Miami. To the north is West Palm Beach, to the west is Greenacres, and to the east is Lake Worth Beach. Major highways, cultural activities, and beautiful beaches are within walking distance for residents and visitors to soak in the offerings of all of South Florida.
