Financier Donald Sussman has set a new record in Fort Lauderdale with the sale of his waterfront mansion for $70 million. The 20,000-square-foot estate, located at 5 Harborage Isle, boasts 10 bedrooms, 15.5 bathrooms, and spans 2.7 acres with over 1,000 feet of water frontage along the Intracoastal Waterway and New River. The buyer, a Delaware LLC named after the property, purchased the estate after it was initially listed for $98 million last year.
The property, built in 2007, includes a main house, guest house, three-car garage, pool, tennis court, playground, and solar panels. Despite these features, the new owner plans to demolish the main estate and build a new home on the land. Sussman, founder and chairman of Paloma Partners Management Company, originally bought the estate for $27.5 million in 2016.
This sale surpasses Fort Lauderdale's previous record—a $40 million deal for a mansion on North Atlantic Boulevard.
Notably, soccer star Lionel Messi and his Inter Miami teammates have been among recent high-profile buyers in the city.
